               Managing Your Thoughts.  An Introduction

 
This excerpt summarizes the keys of how to manage your thoughts.  You will find a detailed explanation with examples and tools in the book.

This rest of this section focuses on managing your thoughts and emotions. Thought and emotions are intertwined; one creates the other.  You can shift your energy using either your thoughts or your emotions, depending on the situation. Although the tips, tools and techniques overlap I will separate them because there is specific information I want to share for each aspect.  
 
Your body, heart and nervous system function through habitual well worn patterns called neural pathways.  Cell memory is laid down according to the focus of your energy.   Fear is at the core of most, if not all, lower vibration thoughts and emotions. When fear unconsciously drives our actions, we protect ourselves from having something we value being taken from us, or to escape from being hurt.  Our thoughts lack clarity.  Our body’s chemical system readies itself for fight or flight, and since both are usually inappropriate behaviours in daily life, we operate from an unbalanced limited place rather than from a position of power.      
 
One of the most common blocks to shifting into higher consciousness is having beliefs that we may not even be aware of.  They lead us to fearful thoughts which inhibit our success.

Process for Managing Your Thoughts and Limiting Beliefs

The following is a summary of steps to help you recognize, challenge and change unrealistic thinking patterns and manage your thoughts. (In the book) They are followed by more detailed how-to’s.  Remember, realize and accept that you create your reality.  Different people perceive the same situations with differing results, because they have different thoughts and beliefs.  

  1. Be consciously aware so you can identify the situation.  Describe the actual event that occurred.
  2. Recognize the story you may have created about the situation.  Who might you be blaming?  Write down all the automatic thoughts that entered your mind when the situation occurred and now as you revisit it.  Unhook from the story and focus on the thoughts.
  3.  Discern whether these thoughts are true?  Which of the thoughts are based on the facts, where true evidence exists to substantiate the thoughts? Are you absolutely sure they are true?
  4. Identify which of the thoughts are not true but are based on negative thinking, habitual thinking, unrealistic expectations or irrational or limiting beliefs.   Honour the thoughts. Is there anything you can learn from them?  Breath, relax and allow insights to materialize.
  5. Choose to replace the illogical thoughts with reasonable alternative ones.
  6. Check in to notice if there are any changes in your feelings and behaviour that may result from changing your thoughts and beliefs.
  7. Give yourself credit for reframing your life and situations from a different perspective.
